This training will teach you to ID pollution sensitive invertebrates in your local streams and certify you to become a Riverfly monitor

About this event

A training event hosted by River Thame Conservation Trust for those interested in monitoring and protecting their local watercourses from pollution events through the ‘Angler’s Riverfly Monitoring Initiative’.

Come along and learn how to identify a range of key riverfly and invertebrate groups that are sensitive to pollution, and how to collect a good invertebrate sample using the kick sample technique.

Once trained you’ll receive a certificate and be fully certified to start monitoring your own site. There is no requirement to take on a monitoring site following training, but this session is aimed at those who would be interested in doing so.

The Angler’s Riverfly Monitoring Initiative (ARMI) is a national scheme, launched by the Riverfly Partnership in 2007 to enable anglers, interested groups and individuals to monitor for pollution events in their local rivers and streams.

Please bring a clean pair of wellies, make sure to give them a scrub before and after training to ensure you’re not transferring any non-native plants or animals between watercourse.

All other equipment will be supplied, including nets, trays and ID guides.
