Stadhampton Fish Bypass Channel Open House

Monday 28 April 2025 at 5:30 pm

Join River Thame Conservation Trust and The Peets on Monday 28 April 2025 at 5:30 pm at The Millhouse, The Green, Stadhampton, OX44 7UA for a special public event to learn about a successful river restoration project in Stadhampton.

In Spring 2023, River Thame Conservation Trust created a nature-like bypass channel to solve the issue of a concrete weir on the Chalgrove Brook which was preventing fish passage. The Chalgrove is a particularly special chalk stream in the River Thame catchment—one of the few local streams home to wild, breeding brown trout. Now, nearly two years on, the bypass channel is flourishing with native plants and an abundance of fish and aquatic life.

Enjoy an evening by the stream, learning about its transformation, spotting wildlife, and taking part in an aquatic mini-beast hunt. All are welcome—families and children encouraged!

This event also marks the final day of RTCT’s first ever Big Give campaign, where we’re aiming to raise £5,000 to support our river restoration work. Every donation will be match funded, doubling your impact to £10,000! Save the Thame: Restoring Species & Habitats – Big Give

This event is free, but donations to River Thame Conservation Trust are warmly encouraged to support our ongoing efforts to protect and restore local rivers and wildlife.
